Larimer County Court Records
Larimer County court records are materials maintained by courts to preserve information about cases handled in the county’s court system. They are preserved in various formats: mainly electronic and paper formats. The preservation of court records is in line with Colorado’s open record act and these records serve various purposes, including promotion of judicial transparency, serving as reference for future legal reforms, and informing legal precedent. Furthermore, records are regulated by local court rules.
In Larimer County, court records are the responsibility of the Clerk of Court’s Office. This office also handles public requests for court records. Court records are related to other kinds of public records, such as vital records, marriage records, federal case records and arrest records, as elements of the said records are often found while inspecting court records. More so, many court records contain certified copies of these records.
Are Larimer County Court Records Public?
Yes. The Colorado Public Records Act (CORA) provides for public access to Larimer County court records. Under CORA, court records may be inspected or copied by any person, governmental agency, media organization, or other entities. However, the public access rule does not apply to records protected by court rule, court order, state law, or federal law, unless the court orders otherwise. Some exempt records include:

Larimer County Court Records Search
Larimer County court records can be accessed through any of the following means:
- Online Access - case and docket information are available online for most Larimer County court records on LexisNexis and Tessera Data. Note that these are third-party vendors, although recommended by the Colorado Judicial Department’s website. To perform an online docket search, a person must specify a date range and party information, case number, attorney information, or court location.
- In-Person Access - residents of Larimer County may visit the clerk of court’s office during business hours to fill out and submit a record request form. The office is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm. Requesters are usually required to provide a case party’s first and last name, and their (the requester’s) contact information. For more specific search results, a requester should provide the case number if known.
- Mail and Phone Requests - all record requests must be in writing. The phone option only exists for interested persons to make inquiries that may aid a search. The completed record request form may be sent by mail to the clerk of court’s office at

Fees for Court Records in Larimer County
The following fees are assessed for access to Larimer County court records:
- $0.25 per page, with a maximum of $15 for case parties
- $20.00 per certified or exemplified copy

Larimer County Courthouse Locations
In the Larimer County court system, like other counties within Colorado, the district court has general jurisdiction over all types of criminal and civil cases but typically only hears cases that are beyond the jurisdiction of other courts. The district court has other divisions, such as the Juvenile Court and small claims court. County courts are the nearest in hierarchy to the district court and handle civil actions up to $15,000, followed by municipal courts. Criminal Records Access in Larimer County
Larimer County criminal records are maintained by the clerk of court’s office, which is also responsible for releasing records to requesters. Records are also available online. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation maintains state-level criminal history records for and handles all public requests for such records through its Internet Criminal History Check (ICHC) system.
Note that arrests sealed by court order and juvenile arrests are not available on this website. Searches on ICHC costs $6.00 per search, plus an additional fee for downloads. To perform a search, a person needs to enter the record subject’s full name and correct date of birth. For the most accurate search result, one may enter the record subject’s social security number, if known. Note that criminal history record information obtained through this method can not be notarized.
Larimer County Probate Records
The Larimer County District Court handles probate matters and its clerk maintains all probate filings and estate records. Common examples of probate matters are wills, guardianships, trusts, conservatorships, and estate administrations. Probate court records, which includes all documents, filed or created in relation to probate matters, are assumed public and are available through the court clerk’s office.
While there are no official county or state-provided resources for online record searches, the state’s judicial website recommends certain third-party vendors for this service. See a previous header for more information. Notwithstanding, record requests can be submitted online. To do this, a requester must complete an online request form where they will provide their contact information and case information (including a case number and filing date).
Request forms can also be completed and submitted in person at the courthouse. Note that certain Larimer County probate records are not public, with access restricted to persons directly involved in the case and their family members.
Larimer County Family Court Records
Family court records are case documents pertaining to family law matters, such as adoption, and divorce, child support/custody. Larimer County does not have a specialized family court and family cases originating in the county fall under the jurisdiction of the county’s district court. Interested persons may request copies of family case records at the court clerk’s office. Record request forms can also be completed and submitted online.
Before visiting the clerk’s office to submit a record request, it is advisable to call and confirm a record’s availability, the applicable fees, and relevant information required to complete the request form. Basic case information can be obtained through the statewide online channels.
Federal Court Records in Larimer County
Larimer County falls under the federal judicial jurisdiction of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. Court sessions for parties resident in Larimer County are held at any of the locations in other counties, as there is no federal courthouse physically located in Larimer County. Cases handled at these courts are federal criminal cases (like drug trafficking, firearm offenses, immigration related crimes, and identity theft) and civil cases (like voting right cases, environmental law cases, and civil lawsuits where the parties are from different states.
Federal case records are available for a fee through the Public Access Court Electronic Records (PACER) portal. A record seeker can search for a case using a participant’s name, case number or filing date. The fees are as follows:
